About Jason Gislason

Jason has over 25 years of experience in the Chemicals and Oil & Gas Industries including positions in Research & Development, Marketing, Refining, Commercial and Digital Transformation. He has a strong passion for intrapreneurship, which is currently focused on transforming the way Chevron Phillips Chemical Company does business through the use of machine learning and artificial intelligence. He holds a BS in Aerospace Engineering form Auburn University, an MBA from Oklahoma State University, a MS in Strategic Intelligence from the American Military University, and a PhD in Computational Physical Chemistry from South Dakota State University.

Jose Arrieta Keynotes Our Digital Enterprise and Data Transformation Assembly!

Our Digital Enterprise and Data Transformation Virtual Assembly in November will feature Jose Arrieta, Former Chief Information Officer and Chief Data Officer at HHS as our keynote speaker! In his last three years at HHS, he oversaw $6.3B in IT investments, $800B in grants, and $26B in Federal contracts while providing cybersecurity solutions for 174,000 people. Jose is a respected leader in applying emerging technologies including blockchain, artificial intelligence/machine learning, and data visualization/ process automation tools. The pandemic caused a lot of turbulence throughout the world and Jose led the creation and implementation of the largest public health surveillance capability in the United States during the pandemic and the first enterprise-grade supervised machine learning capability to help more accurately distribute testing supplies and predict hot spots across the United States.

In his Keynote Address on November 17th, Arrieta will share insights, lessons learned, and failures associated with implementing emerging technologies in a large complex organization during a global pandemic. He will outline how he thinks about valuing disruptive technology companies. He will also touch on blockchain-based solutions, quantum-inspired optimization capabilities, and the opportunities and challenges associated with the internet of things and cloud modernization. He will discuss how he thinks management and leadership will change as organizations become more distributed and virtual. About Jose Arrieta 

In his role as the former Chief Information Officer and Chief Data Officer of HHS, Arrieta admits that failing and pivoting was ultimately the key to the successes he and his team had. His office successfully defended the HHS network against multiple large-scale nation-state cyber-attacks. He led an effort to create a public-private key, distributed ledger infrastructure to establish digital identities for individuals across the United States that was never adopted as a solution. He built and led the implementation of the first blockchain-based solution for lowering licensing costs and decreasing the time of the procurement process in the Federal Government that saved over $100M dollars. Jose currently works with Federal customers evaluating and valuing venture-backed technology start-ups. He is also working with commercial customers bringing IoT solutions to supply chain and manufacturing processes in the energy and agricultural sectors. He currently sits on a few boards and advises technology startups and he recently launched a new IoT start-up focused on securing distributed solutions.  To stay sharp, he created and teaches the first blockchain and cryptocurrency course at Johns Hopkins University as well as entrepreneurial finance. Jose currently lives in San Diego.

CIO Trailblazer, Stuart McGuigan, Keynotes Our Upcoming Assembly!

McGuigan is an industry leader with a background as the Former CIO for the US Department of State, Johnson & Johnson, CVS Caremark and Liberty Mutual. In his most recent position as the CIO of the US Department of State, he left behind a legacy of spearheading the department’s digital transformation journey during the COVID-19 crisis. His areas of focus include business transformation, creating agile cloud environments, enterprise architecture and cybersecurity management. About Stuart McGuigan

During the last administration, Stuart McGuigan was the CIO for the U.S. Department of State, a member of the Senior Executive Service, and the Assistant-Secretary level head of the Bureau of Information Resource Management on. As Chief Information Officer (CIO), he established technology strategic direction and provided oversight for $ 2.4B of technology programs across the Department of State.

Mr. McGuigan joined the Department of State from Johnson & Johnson where he was responsible for global Information Technology strategy and operations for an organization with 130,000 employees at over 170 overseas and domestic locations. With an established reputation for rapidly aligning technology innovation with global business needs, Mr. McGuigan brings over 33 year of industry background including experience as Senior Vice President and CIO of CVS Caremark, Senior Vice President and CIO of Liberty Mutual, and Senior Vice President of Information Services for Medco Health Solutions.

Mr. McGuigan earned a Master of Science and Master of Philosophy degrees in the Cognitive Science program at Yale University and has a Bachelor of Arts degree in psychology from Fairfield University. In 2018, Mr. McGuigan was inducted into www.CIO.com’s CIO Hall of Fame, and he is the recipient of the “Lifetime Contribution Award” from NASSCOM—India’s top not-for-profit IT organization, enabling India’s growth of its $154 billion dollar IT-Business Process Management (BPM) industry.

Flavio Aggio of WHO to Keynote our CISO Assembly!

All the way from Switzerland, Flavio Aggio, CISO of the World Health Organization will keynote our Transformational CISO Virtual Assembly on April 27, 2021. In the midst of such a turbulent and critical year for cybersecurity, Aggio is a wealth of knowledge on digital innovation, enterprise architecture, and the execution of strategies that improve information security. At WHO, he is responsible for both Information Security & Cybersecurity, which focus on governance, risk management, policies, rules and procedures, security standards, security incident response, security operations, and staff awareness activities.

About Flavio

As Chief Information Security Officer (CISO), Flavio Aggio is responsible for Information Security and Cybersecurity at the World Health Organization (WHO). Additionally, he represents WHO in key forums focused on Information Security and Cybersecurity. With more than 30 years of experience in specialized chemical manufacturing, semiconductor, consumer product, government, and international organization industries, Flavio brings tremendous technical leadership and operational expertise to WHO.

Prior to joining WHO, Flavio was the Chief Technology Officer at the City and County of San Francisco, where he developed technology solutions to modernize and protect the city. Before that, he held technical leadership positions in Enterprise Architecture, Project Management, Telecommunications, and IT operations with Unisys, ASML, Dow Chemical, and Rohm & Haas.

In 2014, Flavio enabled the interconnection of the San Francisco and San Jose WiFi networks. The two cities were using a new technology (Hotspot 2.0) allowing smartphones to automatically connect and roam between their two networks as well as provide a layer of security on what would not normally be available in wide-open public hotspots. Flavio holds a Bachelor of Science in Physics from Sao Paulo University in Brazil and an Executive MBA from Temple University in the USA.

Suzette Kent is a global transformation executive who for the last 2 and half years served as the Federal Chief Information Officer for the United States. Appointed by the President in January of 2017, she is the first female to hold this role and the 4th person to serve in this capacity. Bill Murphy is a Managing Partner at Cresting Wave, bringing Innovative technologies to the enterprise technology community. Bill is also a board member at Accurics and a Senior Advisor to McKinsey.

Bill was a Senior Managing Director and the Chief Technology Officer at Blackstone, leading the Blackstone Innovations team from 2011-2020, responsible for the firm’s use of technology along with a strategic technology investment portfolio. Mr. Murphy also served on many boards of directors of our investments along with the board of the Blackstone Charitable foundation.

From 1999 – 2011, Bill was founding Chief Technology Officer for Capital IQ where he was responsible for overseeing all product design, development, infrastructure and technology support and was involved with all operations of the business. Before Capital IQ, Mr. Murphy led teams at Sapient, delivering solutions for large clients primarily in financial services. Mr. Murphy received a BSE in Computer Science from the University of Pennsylvania, Class of ‘96.

About Renee Wynn:

Renee P. Wynn recently retired as the NASA Chief Information Officer. Wynn joined NASA in July 2015 as Deputy Chief Information Officer and became the Chief Information Officer in September 2015. She came to NASA from the Environmental Protection Agency where she had served as the Acting Assistant Administrator for the Office of Environmental Information and Chief Information Officer since July 2013. Ms. Wynn had 30 years of federal service and 25 of those years were with EPA. Ms. Wynn had worked in the federal CIO world since 2011 and has been able to bring her experience working on environmental policy, budget formulation and analysis plus program management to her role as CIO.
Ms. Wynn holds a Bachelor of Arts in Economics from DePauw University, Indiana.
