About Jim Merlino

James Merlino is responsible for helping to forge the head of Cleveland Clinic’s performance, assisting their vision to become the best place to receive care. Dr. Merlino oversees Enterprise Safety and Quality, the Office of Patient Experience and Continuous Improvement.

With over 30 years of healthcare experience, Dr. Merlino rejoined Cleveland Clinic in December 2019 following nearly five years at Press Ganey. At Press Ganey he served as President and Chief Medical Officer of the strategic consulting division since 2015, and in 2018, he took on the expanded role of Chief Transformation Officer at Press Ganey. He led the development of an integrated organizational strategy to help define patient experience to include safe, high-quality, patient-centered care situated on a foundation of an aligned and engaged healthcare culture.

Dr. Merlino has led C-suite strategic sessions with more than 70 of the largest and most successful healthcare organizations in the United States, and regularly coached CEOs, C-suite leaders and healthcare boards on healthcare strategy. Prior to joining Press Ganey, Dr. Merlino served as Chief Experience Officer and Associate Chief of Staff at Cleveland Clinic, as well as a practicing staff colorectal surgeon in the Digestive Disease and Surgery Institute.

Recognized as an expert in improving the safety, quality, and patient experience, Dr. Merlino is frequently invited to speak on strategies to redefine care around the needs of the patient. In 2013, Dr. Merlino was named to HealthLeaders Magazine’s list of “20 people who make healthcare better,” and has consistently been on Becker’s list of top 50 experts in healthcare safety (including 2020). He has been widely published in academic papers, and in 2014, released his first book, “Service Fanatics: How to Build Superior Patient Experience the Cleveland Clinic Way.” He is an editor of the best-selling safety book “Zero Harm: How to Achieve Patient and Workforce Safety in Healthcare,” released in 2018.

Dr. Merlino earned his bachelor’s degree in business administration from Baldwin-Wallace College and a medical degree from Case Western Reserve University School of Medicine. Dr. Merlino completed his general surgery training at University Hospitals of Cleveland and his colorectal surgery fellowship at Cleveland Clinic.

Gary Sorrentino currently serves as Global CIO for Zoom Video Communications. A former Managing Director for J.P. Morgan Asset & Wealth Management, Gary was the Global Head of Client Cyber Awareness and Education. For over 12 years, Gary was the Chief Technology Officer for J.P. Morgan AWM’s global technology infrastructure initiatives, where he managed its Data Privacy program and was responsible for Infrastructure, Application and End User Technology Production Support. In 2014, he assumed a new role as the lead for their Cybersecurity efforts and developed a firm wide “Protect the Client” Cyber program designed to raise cybersecurity awareness among employees and clients. With almost 40 years of experience in Information Technology, Gary has served in various other IT leadership positions in firms across the financial services industry. Prior to joining J.P. Morgan in 2005, Gary was Head of Global Infrastructure and Head of Technology Efficiencies at Citi Private Bank, where he was responsible for Global Infrastructure Support and strategic technology initiatives. Other roles he has held include Global Technology CFO at Credit Suisse and North America IT Controller at UBS. NEW YORK – June 14, 2022 – The Millennium Alliance is excited to formally announce a definitive timeline for returning to the in-person stage, which will begin in September of this year. After 2+ years of organizing strictly Virtual Assemblies for its C-Suite Members, Millennium has locked in dates at 5-Star venues in Miami, Nashville, Denver, and Las Vegas to host their initial In-Person Fall Assemblies.

Millennium is now priding itself on being the one-stop-shop for both In-Person and Virtual Assemblies. Society has clearly changed throughout the course of the pandemic and the sentiment of Millennium’s membership mirrors this. After extensive research into the needs and wants of its client base, about half of members and partners prefer the virtual format, given the convenience and lack of travel, while the other half talked of some virtual fatigue and a desire to get back to conducting business in a face-to-face environment.
